Ok, kill the driver! So it’s been a long time since I wrote a blogpost. Me bad! But there’s a very good reason. Not that I intended to leave my blog alone for as long as I did. The reason was that I was very busy. Since New Years day the work hasn’t stopped and I am falling from one job into the other. Very nice ones actually.
So I am the driver and I know where I’am going. Great staged shoots with lots of fantasy and lots of storytelling and doing it for myself and great brands. Thats where I’am heading at.
One of them was with the brothers van Bommel. They are running a family-based shoe factory in the south of Holland. And while a lot of those little shoe factories went bankrupt, van Bommel thrived. They are winning because they do things differently and with a longterm view.
I had to produce a set of pictures which were dynamic and full of contrast. And it had to be different….By the way, these guys don’t have lots of time on their hand so I had to be very efficient. I envisioned the set and I did a location check on forehand and that paid of. Everything was ready and steady when they arrived on location. I produced 10 striking images, with 1 cover, in 25 minutes time.
This proces of envisioning the scene, making preparations, making sure everybody’s knowing whats needed, location scouting, and in the end the final shoot, is getting better and better.
These productions are what my professional heart is ticking for. It gets me excited, headaches, cheers, every emotion you can think of. But in the end my reward is the interaction with the people who are my royalty on the set. The people who ar willingly to play a part in my staged environments. These men and women who are forgetting about themselves and entering a new reality and in the proces delivering beautiful photography. I am privileged to guide them on these beautiful moments. And most of the time I’am the driver :-)
